Just about the only things missing were the tone and the urban decay. Science Fiction Studies 22:2 (July 1995): 252-63. I wonder now, how my views on this subgenre and others and the movement as a whole would be different if this obsession had started when I was a kid. However one views individual works and participants though, one thing is certain, as Michael Levy points out: “The cyberpunks were indeed the biggest thing to hit sf since the New Wave, and they did change the field significantly” (153).
