This volume is divided into two distinct but related parts. Part one is, in effect, a primer on academic freedom written by DeGeorge. He systematically discusses what he sees as the justifications for academic freedom and tenure, as well as the rights, responsibilities and ethical obligations that should accompany the status. Also included here is a discussion of the Michael Levin and Leonard Jeffries academic freedom cases at the City College of the City University of New York.
