STEROLS IN eSF OF PATIENTS BEARING BRAIN TUMORS The use of drugs in studying sterol metabol ism in the eNS has also been appl ied to humans. Desmosterol has been found to be present in low concentrations in human brain tumors, such as gl ioblastomas (17). After a short triparanol treatment, desmosterol accumulates in brain tumors but not in the normal surrounding brain. A consequence of this is the possible appearance of desmosterol in cerebrospinal fluid (eSF) of brain tumor bearing patients only.
