3 Finished design work as the solution to a design problem Finished design work is presented to show the design solution to the brief. It will often show the development of ideas through to the final design work. 4 Work to show capabilities and potential Designers will build up a portfolio of art/design work to show what they are capable of. Art/design work should show a variety, a selection of the best work showing how ideas are worked through. It should be neat and tidy, and presented in a coherent manner.

Often the left side and the upper part of a picture attract our attention first; this is particularly so for those whose language is written from left to right. Similarity of elements in a design often leads to monotony. Contrasting elements tend to stand out. Elements that contrast strongly stand in opposition to one another — light against dark, large against small, round against square or smooth against rough. 5 Unity Unity exists when all the elements in a design work together harmoniously.

When mixed together they subtract from the light producing black. When different pairs of the subtractive primaries are mixed, the colours red, green and blue are produced. These principles are used when we paint and in photography and colour printing. Colour systems. As the human eye can distinguish between 10 million colours, it is clear that to describe colour experiences by name is imprecise. While everyone knows what is meant by tomato red, different people have different ideas as to exactly what colours are meant by beige and sand; mauve and lilac.
