In Erazo’s experience, formal mentoring provides an accelerated track for those new to the profession. Mentors, however, may not have much time to mentor. Although they may be willing, mentors are often very busy people. E-mail now provides a useful mentoring vehicle for mentors with heavy schedules. E-mail mentoring doesn’t have to involve lengthy correspondence, but it must be consistent. Erazo believes that by helping someone’s career along, mentors get a sense of giving something back to the profession.
